Poetry Slam!

Yesterday our 3rd graders shared the stage with Ms. Feris's 6th graders in the 4th annual SIA Poetry Slam. I am so proud of our students for putting themselves out there and being such a supportive audience to each other! A special thanks to everyone who was able to attend. Snap on!

Author Visit and Poetry Party

We have quite a busy week in 3rd grade! On Monday Ms. Ferris and her 6th graders paid us a visit to show us the false apology poems they had written. We also were able to share the limericks students wrote for spring break homework as well. This visit was very inspiring and helped get us pumped and prepared for our poetry slam next Tuesday (April 14th) at 1pm in the gym. Hope you can make it!

On Tuesday, we had a visit from local author William Burt, who wrote the King of the Trees series. He read the first chapter or so of his book, introduced us to his pet griffin, Windsong, and answered student questions about his writing process and books. Third graders did an excellent job listening to his story and words of wisdom and asked insightful questions such as "What do you when you get stuck with your writing?" and "Where is your favorite place to write?". Many students were able to purchase his books from the book fair.

And on Friday afternoon we took a poetry walk and admired and appreciated the poetry that the first graders had written and hung up for everyone to enjoy in the forest.
